Can emergency dentists pull teeth?

Yes, in fact, dental extractions are a common procedure in emergency dentistry. At Fox View Dental, we do everything in our power to save your tooth. Under certain circumstances, however, dental extraction is needed to maintain your oral health.

What Is Emergency Dental Extraction?

While we want our teeth to last for a lifetime, sometimes life has other plans. When a tooth is decayed or damaged beyond repair, you may benefit from an emergency dental extraction if you suffer from tooth pain.

When we can, we will use dental crowns or fillings to protect your tooth, but when that isn't a viable option, our emergency dentist, Dr. Chad Yenchesky, will decide whether an emergency tooth extraction is the best solution.

What Causes Emergency Dental Extractions?

While there are many variables that account for dental emergencies, the most common include:

  • Untreated tooth decay
  • Advanced gum disease
  • Abscess
  • Impacted teeth (usually wisdom teeth)
  • Injury to your tooth
  • Cracked or fractured tooth
  • Broken tooth

If an infection occurs, we need to move rapidly to prevent the infection from spreading. Since your mouth is so close to your sinuses and brain cavity, there is always a risk that the infection could move.
