How do you treat sleep apnea?

Sleep apnea in De Pere is a dangerous sleep disorder that causes you to stop breathing during the night while you sleep. This can happen multiple, even hundreds of times without you even realizing it.

Sleep apnea is most often caused by an obstructed airway that prevents you from getting much-needed oxygen while you sleep. The lack of oxygen signals your brain to wake you up, which disrupts the quality of your sleep throughout the night.

CPAP, or continuous positive airway pressure therapy, is the standard treatment that your physician will recommend for treating sleep apnea. CPAP therapy requires that you wear a mask during sleep that continuously delivers a set amount of oxygen to you. While this treatment works well for many patients, some people find it claustrophobic and difficult to wear the mask while they sleep.

Dr. Chad works with many patients who suffer from sleep apnea, offering an alternative treatment that can often provide similar results as CPAP therapy. Dr. Chad uses a custom-designed oral appliance that you wear comfortably while you sleep. The device helps to reposition your jaw and keep your airway open for clear breathing during the night.

Many patients find the oral appliance easier and more comfortable to wear, and some patients with severe sleep apnea may combine wearing an oral appliance with their CPAP for better results.
