Other

top dentist in green bayWe agree with the American Dental Association’s recommendation that you should see your De Pere dentist twice each year for examinations and cleanings. In dentistry, prevention of problems is always preferred rather than treating them after the fact.

What to Expect With Your Checkup

When you visit your dentist every six months, he or she can check your mouth carefully for signs of decay, gum disease, and other issues. Regular x-rays will enable your dentist to see things that cannot be spotted with the naked eye so problems can be identified in their earliest stages.

It’s also important to have your teeth professionally cleaned twice each year. Even if you are diligent about flossing and brushing at home, plaque still develops on teeth. Once it hardens into tartar, it is impossible to remove with brushing and flossing alone. Your dental hygienist will use special dental tools to remove tartar, also called calculus, from your teeth and along your gum line.

Oral cancer screening is another reason it’s imperative you see your dentist twice each year. Oral cancer is highly treatable—as long as it is caught early.

Dental Cleaning and Exams in Green Bay

Don’t skimp on your oral health by skipping dental appointments. Go twice each year to stay on top of your oral health.

Dental Crown Appointment Each patient’s oral health is unique and your crown treatment also requires unique and customized care. Dental Crown treatment typically requires at least two visits to our practice to complete.

What To Expect

On your first visits please prepare to spend about 2 hours with our doctor and team. Dr. Chad and his assistants will prepare the tooth that is in need of a dental crown by removing any damage or decay to restore the tooth to a healthy state. Dental records and impressions will be taken of your tooth. Our team will then custom fabricate a temporary crown to be placed over your tooth until your next appointment.

There is about a 2-3 week time between your first visit and your final visit. During this time your dental records are sent to an off-site master ceramics dental laboratory where your all porcelain crown will be created. All porcelain crowns have the vitality to blend seamlessly with your natural teeth. When your custom dental crown is ready, you will return to our office for a one-hour appointment. During your final visits, your temporary crown will be removed and your permanent crown will be bonded to your tooth.

CEREC Crowns & Bridges

dentist de pere | green bayClicking and popping in the jaw joint, along with pain and locking, are symptoms of temporomandibular joint dysfunction, conditions of the jaw joint that can be incredibly detrimental to your quality of life.

How TMJ Develops

The temporomandibular joint (TMJ) is the joint where your lower jaw connects to your skull. If you place your fingers just below your ear and open and close your mouth, you can feel this joint in action. The jaw joint is complex and designed to have an impressive range of motion, which allows for our complex speech and varied diet. Unfortunately, complex joints can also have complex problems.

When the joint becomes inflamed, it stops working correctly. Pain is often the result, along with the popping and clicking described. Fortunately, solutions are available.

First, we'll want to see if we can pinpoint the cause of the dysfunction. Sometimes, the joint is inflamed because of arthritis or an injury to the joint itself. Sometimes it's the result of a long-term clenching and grinding habit known as bruxism. Sometimes stress is a factor. In addition to addressing the underlying cause, we will also address your symptoms to relieve your discomfort and restore function to the joint.

A custom-made splint, worn at night, will help to relax your jaw muscles and provide support to reduce the inflammation.

Our Green Bay Office Can Help with TMJ!

If you are experiencing pain or other jaw symptoms, please call our De Pere dental office right away so we can determine the best solution for you.

Gum Disease Treatment in green bayA range of factors contributes to the development of gum disease. While genetics do appear to be a component, other factors include:

  • Smoking and other tobacco use
  • Hormonal changes
  • Pregnancy
  • Diabetes
  • Immune deficiencies
  • Medications that have a drying effect

The most common cause of periodontal disease, however, is poor home dental hygiene. Fortunately, this is something that is easy to address!

How Gum Disease Forms

When plaque and tartar build up on the teeth, they irritate the gums, causing inflammation and the formation of pockets between the gums and the teeth. an When infection develops in these pockets, this is the beginning of gum disease. Brushing and flossing according to Dr. Chad's instructions will keep plaque from building up on your teeth, and twice-yearly cleanings (or more often, depending on your specific needs) will remove any traces of plaque and tartar that do remain.

Gum Disease Treatment in Green Bay

If you have a family history of gum disease or you have any of the risk factors for periodontal disease listed above, please let us know so we can create a comprehensive treatment plan that focuses on disease prevention or treatment. We'll work closely with you because we know that periodontal disease does not have to be a family legacy!

Smile | Tooth Replacement De Pere WI If you are missing one or more teeth, you have a couple of different options for tooth replacement, including bridges and implants.

How a Dental Bridge Works

A dental bridge works well to fill in the gap left behind when you are missing one or a few teeth right next to each other. It permanently attaches to the teeth adjacent to the space, so it restores the form and function of your smile. It also has the added benefit of helping to maintain the health of your remaining teeth because it will prevent them from shifting out of place.

Dental Implants

A dental implant is ideal for tooth replacement when you are missing one or all of your teeth. Dental implants are most like your natural teeth when it comes to tooth replacement. Implants will give you back your ability to chew and speak properly. It will also preserve your jawbone, which is especially crucial if you are missing all of your teeth. With dental implants, you will have no restrictions on foods you can eat, and you can care for them just as you would your natural teeth—with brushing, flossing, and keeping up with regular trips to the dentist.

Cosmetic Dentistry

cosmetic dentist green bay wiOver-the-counter tooth whitening products, such as toothpaste, can help remove surface stains because they contain mild abrasives. Other OTC tooth whitening products can also help whiten teeth because many of them contain some of the same whitening ingredients found in professional teeth whitening products. The difference is that the OTC products contain these ingredients at a much lower concentration than the professional options.

How Teeth Whitening Works

Professional teeth whitening at your Green Bay dentist is a quick procedure that is usually completed in about an hour or so. The process if often accelerated by the use of a special light. When you bleach your teeth at home, results will take a much longer time. For example, if you are trying whitening strips, you might be required to wear them for several hours a day over the course of a couple of weeks.

Another problem with OTC whitening products is that people tend to use them inconsistently. They might start using the products for a few days, but then they don’t continue with the treatment. Sometimes people also use the products incorrectly. It’s important to follow instructions with these products and use them as long as is recommended.

  • Size discrepancies
  • Misshapen teeth
  • Excessive wear
  • Gaps or spacing between teeth
  • Slight misalignment issues

The Process of Completing Veneers

Dr. Yenchesky can help you redesign your smile, and then veneers can typically be completed in two appointments. During the first appointment, he will prepare your teeth and create temporary veneers for you to wear that will help you get used to the look and feel of your new smile. You will wear these for a week or two while your permanent restorations are being fabricated at a local dental laboratory. The second appointment will be the permanent placement of your porcelain veneers, and now is the time to make any necessary adjustments to your new smile.

Implant Dentistry

Tooth loss can be devastating because it impacts so many areas of your life—everything from smiling with confidence to chewing your food. Missing teeth can even lead to more tooth loss due to shifting; remaining teeth tend to move toward smile gaps over time.

Your dentist in De Pere, WI recommends dental implants to help restore aesthetics, function, and to promote better oral health.

A dental implant is a tooth root replacement. It is surgically implanted in your jaw and integrates with the bone over time. When integration is complete, we top the implant with a quality dental crown.

The process is not known to be painful. Your dentist is working in an area that he has numbed with an anesthetic. Our patients describe recovery as quick, with only mild soreness for a few days, similar to what you might experience with a less invasive dental procedure.

Your dentist in De Pere is always gentle and makes sure that you feel comfortable throughout implant placement and during your recovery.

If you have missing teeth and considering dental implants in De Pere, WI, we would love to help you. Contact our dental office today to talk to a team member and schedule your implant consultation.

Tooth Replacement in Green Bay WIThe dental implant process takes several months to complete. But if you ask most of our patients who have undergone implant dentistry at our De Pere practice, they will agree that it was completely worth it.

Why Tooth Replacement is Needed

Dental implants are widely accepted as the most effective way to replace missing teeth. Whether you are missing one tooth, a few, or all of your teeth, dental implants will provide you with the form and function that is closest to what you had with your natural teeth. Implants are integrated into the jawbone, so you will have none of the moving and shifting many denture-wearers complain about.

The process takes most patients anywhere from six to eight months from the time the implant is placed to the placement of the crown atop the implant as long as their gums and jawbone are healthy. If you need a bone graft to ensure you have adequate jawbone to support the implant, the process can take several months longer.

It should be noted that the stability of implants can be used to support dentures as well. The union between implant and denture makes the entire process more affordable, providing the best of both worlds.

dental implants de pere | green bayFor most people, dental implants are the best long-term solution for tooth replacement.

So what makes dental implants better than a bridge or a partial?

Why Our Patients Love Dental Implants

The main difference is that unlike other options, which only replace the visible portion of your tooth (the crown), a dental implant also replaces the part of the tooth you can't see – the root. On the surface (so to speak), this might not seem like such a big deal, but when you recognize the role of the root in preserving your oral health, you can see why this is so important.

Each part of your mouth works together. Just like the periodontal bone helps to support your teeth and hold them in place, the roots of your teeth actually stimulate your bone to maintain itself. While minerals are being sent to the bone, it can remain healthy and strong. But when you lose a tooth, this process stops. Without the root, your bone will stop maintaining itself, which sets off a cycle of problems. As the bone becomes weaker, other teeth will likely become loose, leading to further lost teeth and multiple oral health problems. In time, bone loss can even change the shape of your face.

A dental implant can prevent this cycle from starting – or halt it in its tracks.

Preventative Dentistry

Gum disease or gingivitis is a widespread problem and affects half of all US adults over the age of thirty. It isn’t that gum disease is difficult to treat in its early stages; it’s that symptoms often go unnoticed, or you may not have any symptoms at all to alert you to a problem.

It’s essential to treat gingivitis at our Green Bay dental office as soon as we detect it because it is very destructive to your oral health. Without treatment, gingivitis can quickly escalate to periodontitis. This is the advanced form of gum disease that attacks your gums and other structures that support your teeth.

Gingivitis is typically easy to treat in its early stages and involves a thorough dental cleaning with one of our skilled hygienists. She will brush and floss all surfaces of your teeth, especially those areas that your brush can’t reach.

Plaque that remains on your teeth develops into a hard, mineral-like substance called tartar, and only a hygienist can remove it using instruments designed for that purpose. We’ll also review your brushing and flossing habits and offer tips for improving them and getting the most out of your oral hygiene routine at home.

With preventative dentistry at our Green Bay dental office, including routine exams and teeth cleanings, we can help you avoid gum disease. If you do develop gum disease, however, we’re here to provide the treatment you need, and we will never judge you.

If you notice symptoms of gingivitis like bleeding or swollen gums, call us to schedule a dental cleaning so we can get you back on the road to excellent oral health.

Dental Tools on a Tray | Top Dentist in De Pere You can expect the following steps when you go to your dentist in Green Bay for a teeth cleaning:

A Visual Examination

In most dental offices, a hygienist performs the dental cleaning, and before he or she gets started, they will conduct an examination of your entire mouth. Your hygienist will use a small dental mirror to look at your teeth and gums, watching for signs of gum disease or other problems.

The Removal of Plaque and Tartar

Using special dental tools designed for this purpose, the hygienist will scrape away plaque and tartar that has built up around the gum line. Tartar tends to build up in certain areas—particularly behind the front bottom teeth—so the hygienist might have to do additional scraping there. Even the most diligent flossers and brushers will have plaque that builds up and turns to tartar, but the better your home care, the less scraping there will be.

The Deep Cleaning

Once your teeth are free of most of the tartar, a gritty substance will be brushed on your teeth with a high-powered electric brush. This will remove any remaining tartar as well as surface stains on your teeth. The hygienist will then floss your teeth and rinse away any remaining debris.

If it’s been a while since your last dental cleaning, call FoxView Dental to make an appointment!

Sedation Dentistry

Sedation dentistry has helped improve the oral health of millions of people by allowing them to de-stress and get the dental care they need. If you find yourself postponing dental appointments or skipping them altogether, sedation dentistry at our De Pere dental clinic allows you to get the care you need to maintain your oral health.

Whether your dental anxiety is triggered by the sounds and smells of a dental office, injections, the sensations, or a strong gag reflex, sedation dentistry in Green Bay can help you.

When you call to arrange your appointment, let us know that you would like to try sedation dentistry. Dr. Yenchesky will prescribe an oral sedative for you to take about an hour before your procedure. The benefit is that when you arrive at Fox View Dental, you will already feel pleasantly relaxed, drowsy, and ready for your appointment.

Oral sedation won’t knock you out. You will remain fully conscious and aware, but you’ll feel very comfortable, and some of our patients get so relaxed that they even drift off to sleep.

Since the sedative remains in your system for several hours, you will need a friend or family member to drive you safely to and from your appointment. We recommend you go home and take it easy for the rest of the day while the effects wear off.

Sedation dentistry at our Green Bay dental office is a huge benefit for patients who wouldn’t otherwise be able to get the oral health care they need. If you think that a sedative would benefit you at your next appointment, please let us know. Your comfort is our priority!

Snoring and Sleep Apnea

Woman Sleeping in Bed | Sleep Apnea Treatment in Green BayAlthough snoring is a common symptom of sleep apnea, just because you snore, this doesn’t necessarily mean you have sleep apnea. Snorers who suffer from sleep apnea often pause during snoring (something usually identified by a sleep partner). This might be followed by choking or gasping. Some people might experience shortness of breath.

Symptoms of Sleep Apnea

Chronic fatigue during the day is another symptom of sleep apnea. You might find yourself fighting off sleepiness while you are at work or school—or even while you are driving.

Other signs that could point to sleep apnea include the following:

  • Waking up with a sore throat
  • Having a headache in the morning
  •  Experiencing problems paying attention
  • Feeling irritable

Kids who have sleep apnea might perform poorly at school, be hyperactive, or exhibit anger or hostility. Many children who suffer from sleep apnea are mouth breathers during the day.

Sleep Apnea Dentist in De Pere

When most people think of treatment for sleep apnea, they picture CPAP therapy. For many people, however, this intrusive machine is too disruptive, too much of a hassle, and too noisy, so they don’t use it as directed. Dr. Yenchensky can talk to you about oral appliance therapy, which might be a better option to help with sleep apnea.

Toy Teeth | Top Dentist 54115 An occlusal is typically prescribed for the function and protection of your bite and jaw joints. It is a specialized treatment that must be customized per individual and requires at least 3 appointments. During your first appointment, we will request at least 1 hour of time. These records can include; x-rays, impressions of your teeth, photographs, and other digital imaging. On your second appointment, we will request at least a 20-30 minute visit which will be approximately 3 weeks after the first visit. During this visit you will be fitted with your oral appliance and Dr. Chad will thoroughly review your therapy.

Occlusal Guards in De Pere

After 3 weeks you will return to our office for your final appointment, which can take about 20-30 minutes. Your final appointment is your evaluation visit. Dr. Chad will review your progress and may need to take additional dental records to monitor your therapy’s success.

Veneers

veneers de pere | green bayPossibly!

If you've been considering options to improve the appearance of your smile, then veneers might be on your radar. Veneers are the secret behind many red carpet–ready smiles, and today, they've become so affordable and accessible that just about anyone can have the smile they've always wanted!

Are You a Good Candidate?

A good candidate for porcelain veneers meets the following criteria:

  • Good overall oral health
  • Free from gum disease and decay
  • No clenching or grinding habit
  • No nail biting or other nervous chewing habits

Even if you do currently have periodontal disease or a habit of chewing on your nails, don't despair! We can work with you to help you become a better candidate!

We can address and treat any ongoing health problems and look for solutions for habits like bruxism (clenching and grinding) or nail-biting. Once these are under control, we can look at veneers to help you have a beautiful, natural-looking smile.

Veneers in De Pere

It's no secret that a nice smile helps when you are making a first impression. If you feel like your smile has been holding you back, you owe it to yourself to call FoxView Dental and request a smile consult with Dr. Chad. He'll discuss your goals and your concerns and make sure that all your questions are answered.

Cosmetic Smile Makeovers in De Pere WIIf your teeth are worn down, veneers can be an excellent option to repair your smile. However, it should be noted that if your teeth are worn down from bruxism—teeth grinding or clenching—this habit needs to be deterred before getting veneers, or they will likely be damaged just as your teeth were. Your dentist might recommend a nightguard to be worn while you are sleeping to help with unconscious teeth grinding.

Why Veneers?

Veneers are wafer-thin tooth covers that are placed over the teeth to camouflage problems with your natural teeth. Because they are translucent, they mimic the look of natural teeth, so it’s nearly impossible to tell you have veneers. In addition to teeth that are worn down, veneers can also cover up gappy, misaligned, and discolored teeth as well. Because some preparation of your teeth is needed before placing the veneers, these are a permanent cosmetic option.

Caring for veneers is easy: Brush and floss regularly, and see your dentist twice a year for routine exams and cleanings. Veneers cannot stain like your natural teeth, but they can become scratched, so whitening toothpaste or other abrasives are not recommended.

Smile Makeovers in De Pere

For veneers, contact FoxView Dental in De Pere. Make an appointment today!

Smile Makeovers in De Pere WIWhen you opt for veneers at our Green Bay practice, Dr. Yenchensky will go over instructions for caring for your investment. Caring for veneers is not much different than caring for your natural teeth.

Here are a few veneer care tips:

  • Don’t chew on items other than food. If you chew on pen caps or bite your nails, these are habits to stop if you want to protect your veneers.
  • Be leery of substances that can stain your veneers. Although veneers are mostly stain-resistant, it’s a good idea to keep your smile looking its whitest by avoiding smoking, coffee, tea, soda, red wine, and the like. Be sure to brush your teeth after imbibing in any of them.
  • If you play sports, be sure to use a mouthguard to protect your teeth—and your veneers.
  • Talk to your dentist if you suspect you are grinding your teeth. This is a habit that will impact both your natural teeth and your veneers. If you are doing it subconsciously in your sleep, a nightguard might provide protection.
  • Visit your dentist twice a year to have your teeth and gums examined—and have your veneers polished. This procedure will help add longevity to your veneers.
  • Avoid using whitening toothpaste on your veneers as they tend to have abrasives that can damage the surface.
