Why should I choose a dentist for Botox treatment?
His deep understanding of the facial structure, muscles, and nerves means Dr. Chad is uniquely suited for providing customized Botox treatment. In comparison to any other practitioner, he knows exactly how each muscle works. His expertise ensures that the precise amount of Botox is administered in just the right location to achieve the desired effect, regardless of whether treatment is aesthetically or medically oriented.
In the end, it’s much easier to say you are attending a “dental appointment” than explaining you have a cosmetic appointment at your plastic surgeon’s office.
What is Dr. Chad’s training with using Botox?
Dr. Chad completed his training through the American Association of Facial Esthetics (AAFE). The AAFE is well known for hands-on practice with both Botox and dermal fillers. How does Botox work?
One of the most well-known uses for Botox is as a wrinkle reducing treatment. When used appropriately, Botox can relax muscle contractions, helping to reduce the appearance of fine lines around the eyes, mouth and in the forehead. It is especially useful in treating pesky fine lines that have only recently made their debut.
What problems can you treat with Botox?
Botox is approved by the FDA to reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles on the forehead and around the eyes. Injecting Botox in certain areas of your face blocks nerve transmissions that cause your muscles to contract. Some common facial aesthetic problems Botox addresses are:
- Crows' feet
- Frown lines
- Bunny lines around the nose
- Lifting the brows
- Marionette creases (lines around the mouth)
- Horizontal forehead lines or furrowed brow
- Frown lines between the eyes (“Angry 11”)
Will my face look “frozen” after Botox treatment?
One concern often voiced by people considering Botox, is whether the outcome will look natural and if they’ll lose the ability to show facial expressions. But the goal of Botox treatment at our Green Bay dental office is to leave you with a beautifully refreshed, smooth appearance.
Dr. Chad personalizes the amount of Botox for each patient so that the results we achieve always look natural. You will still be able to smile and express emotions, and no one will know you’ve had Botox treatment. But they will notice that a refreshed and more youthful appearance.
How does Botox relieve TMJ pain?
Did you know Botox is also beneficial for treating temporomandibular joint (TMJ) pain and disorders? Temporomandibular joint disorder or TMD for short, causes overactive jaw and facial muscles to clench, creating pain and inflammation in the jaw joints. Dr. Chad can administer Botox to help relieve tension in these overactive muscles, helping them to relax and reducing the pain in your jaw joints.
If you would like to learn more about the benefits of treating TMJ pain with Botox, please call our Green Bay dental office to arrange an appointment.
What do I need to know before I get Botox?
Before your treatment, our team will advise you of all the possible risks associated with Botox injections. While we can’t eliminate all of them, following a few simple guidelines before your Botox treatment will help minimize side effects:
- You should have no active skin infections, cold sores, rashes, or irritation in the areas we're treating.
- Avoid alcoholic beverages 24 hours before treatment as alcohol can thin your blood and make you more prone to bruising.
- Discontinue use of Retin-A two days before and after treatment
- If possible, avoid anti-inflammatory medications for a week before treatment since they also thin your blood.
If you're getting Botox for a wedding, reunion, or another big event, be sure to plan your treatment at least two weeks in advance. This allows time for any bruising to heal and the full effects of the procedure to become apparent.
Are Botox and dermal fillers the same thing?
Dermal fillers and Botox are not the same things. We use Botox to treat “dynamic" wrinkles that form when you make facial expressions like raising your eyebrows, smiling, or frowning.
Dermal fillers are used to fill in and minimize “static" wrinkles, which are the lines that are apparent even when your face is at rest. These lines form because as we age, the production of collagen and hyaluronic acid that gives your face a full, youthful appearance decreases. One example of static wrinkles are the nasolabial folds that run from the side of your nose to the corners of your mouth. You’ve probably heard these referred to as “marionette lines.”
How long do dermal fillers last?
The results obtained with dermal fillers is longer than those with Botox and can last anywhere between six months and a year or more. Dr. Chad needs to repeat the process periodically to maintain youthful results.
In many cases, we see patients who have both static and dynamic lines, and Dr. Chad may recommend that we combine Botox with filler treatments for total facial rejuvenation. When you meet with Dr. Chad, he will evaluate your needs and personalize your treatment accordingly.
